Anbalaya Rural Residential Special School

This is a Community Based Centre which is in Menellathur village at Tiruvallur started in the year 2007. This is established to create awareness to the rural people in the surrounding villages and to give them opportunity to develop their children skills in academic and non academic. In the year 2013, It is transferred to the new own building constructed with the support from the State Govt., Ministry of social Welfare. Now it is a residential school cum training centre to care for the faraway children to modify their behavior problem and day to day daily living activities. There are about 25 children in the centre among them ten are inmates. The centre organizes awareness programmes and medical camps for the villagers with the support of local corporate sectors. We are requiring sponsors to meet their daily activities and food expense for the children in the centre.

Special School

A special school in the name of ‘AnbalayA’ which is recognized by the Government of Tamil Nadu is to train and provide welfare to the differently abled and intellectually challenged. AnbalayA is a word meaning “Home of Love”. It extends hands to welcome all the Intellectually Challenged children in North Chennai & Thiruvallur District. The unique head of “AnbalayA” is that it offers updated techniques with a variety of services in one roof. So far it has trained more than 300 students to settle down through main stream education & for the job opportunity.

Therapy Unit

Children as young as six months come to this department for physiotherapy, occupational, speech and sensory therapy. Necessary aids and appliances are used in the unit to support movement to strengthen their muscles to maximum level. Children those who are spastic, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Autistic & with speech problem are attending this unit and get improved as per their ability level.
The other therapies like Play Therapy, Art & Craft, Creative Movement Therapy, Music/Dance Therapy, Brain Gym & Yoga are also followed to improve their physical ability and to be socially improved. Speech therapy is to produce sound and to get clear speech or to get communication skill to express their desires and needs.

Vocational Unit

The qualified Intellectually Challenged from Pre Vocational level are selected for the vocational unit called Wheel Vocational Unit. The WVU is to make every adolescent intellectually challenged as to support their family. It is preparing the trainees for gainful employment. This Unit provides variety of opportunities to make use of their skills and talents to produce Life Style Products, Stationeries, Fashion Jewelry, Cleaning Materials, House Hold Orticals etc., The products are displayed in exhibitions & sales through corporate sectors, IT concern, nearby schools, hospitals & local shops. More than 25 successful skilled workers from WVU are placed in jobs as per their ablity.

Parent Association


Arumbugal is the parent association & self-help group in order to develop economic status as well as their children’s development They support Wheel Vocational Unit (WVU) and conduct regular meeting with the experts for the parents to create awareness.

Self Help Training

Short term trainings are conducted for women to strengthen economic empowerment. Tailoring, Book binding, computer training, jewel making etc. More than 100 successful women are either self-employed or employed in other concern.

Vivas Sports Acadamy

Special coaching programme for Sports & Games are designed to the Intellectually Challenged to get improvement in their physical strength & mental strength especially to overcome their Behaviour problem & social stigma. It is providing more opportunities to the athletes to participate in ‘Special Olympics’ events from district to International. The athletes & parents are motivated to join the movement and get self confidence and receive rewards & medals regularly.

Out Reach project

Under the seheme of ‘Vazhi Kaatum Thittam’ by Govt., of Tamil Nadu, DEC took 3 blocks in Tiruvallur dist., Tamil Nadu. The blocks are Cholavaram, Minjur & Gummidipondi. Over 6000 different abled in 157 villages are covered by this scheme. Trained village welfare workers & coordinators are involved in the valuable work on the field by mobilize trainings, camps & other referral services. This scheme is designed to meet the welfare of the differently abled in rural areas.

Referral Service

We network with Govt., & private hospitals, clinics, schools, corporate sectors & professionals to refer the students for treatment, training, guidance, counseling, placement and aids & appliances.

Tuition Service

Special tuition service is taken in the evening for slow learners & Learning Disabled. The regular school goers and special children in main stream attend the sessions and learned the techniques to resolve their difficulties in regular curriculum.
